Manchester City expect Pablo Zabaleta to play with a protective mask against Hull City, but Vincent Kompany is set to be sidelined for a fortnight.
The versatile Argentine had to be replaced in the first half of Saturday's clash with Portsmouth after taking a blow in the face.
It was later revealed that he had broken his nose and was left 'stunned' by the incident on his return to the dressing room.
However, City have now announced that he will see a specialist on Tuesday when a splint is set to be fitted.
Zabaleta would then be able to wear a protective mask and return to training with his team-mates ahead of the trip to the KC Stadium.
The news is not so good on Kompany after the Belgian limped off against Pompey with a groin injury.
Roberto Mancini voiced concern over the problem after the match and Kompany has now been ruled out of City's next two games.
Patrick Vieira, meanwhile, is nearing full fitness after recovering from a calf injury and could be in contention to face the Tigers.
