Nakamura and Sahar say no to loans

Shunsuke Nakamura and Ben Sahar both rejected deadline day departures from Espanyol. Nakamura was wanted by his former Celtic boss Gordon Strachan at Middlesbrough, whilst Sahar was being tracked by Hapoel Tel Aviv and Hapoel Haifa in his homeland. Espanyol were open to letting both players depart, as both are only on the fringes of Mauricio Pochettino's first-team. Nakamura only joined the Barcelona-based side last summer, and he opted against a move to the Championship - despite the promise of first-team football following Adam Johnson's exit. "I am staying," Nakamura told the Spanish press on Monday. Sahar, likewise, shunned the offer of a loan switch and decided to fight for his place at the Estadi Cornella-El Prat.
