Skysports.com understands Ipswich are hoping to beat the transfer deadline to sign Sunderland striker Daryl Murphy.

Keane has been a long-term admirer of Murphy having worked with him during his time in charge of Sunderland and tried to sign the versatile performer during the summer transfer window.

Murphy is well down the pecking order at Sunderland and Black Cats boss Steve Bruce is prepared to loan him out so that he can get valuable first-team action under his belt.

Keane has cleared the way to bring Murphy to Portman by agreeing to loan out Tamas Priskin to Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers.

Murphy is expected to join Ipswich on loan until the end of the season and Keane hopes his fellow Irishman will help solve their goalscoring problems.
