Magpies let high-earning midfielder leave St James' Park

Newcastle United have confirmed that midfielder Geremi has joined Turkish side Ankaragucu on an 18-month deal. The Cameroon international was thought to be close to making the move at the start of January and was paraded in front of Ankaragucu fans but the Magpies rejected the story. Geremi, though, has now left the Championship title hopefuls after agreeing a one-and-a-half-year contract in Turkey. The former Real Madrid, Chelsea and Middlesbrough man arrived at St James' during the summer of 2007 when then-manager Sam Allardyce recruited him for his experience. But he has struggled to feature in the plans of current boss Chris Hughton and Newcastle have therefore allowed a high earner on the wage bill to leave.
