Skysports.com has learnt Watford are lining up a move for highly-rated Rochdale winger Will Buckley.
The talented 20-year-old has again been in outstanding form this season in playing a key role in Rochdale's surge to the League Two summit.
In the past he is thought to have attracted interest from the Premier League but it is Championship side Watford who are now ready to test Dale's resolve to keep him.
Dale boss Keith Hill will be loath to lose the talented schemer but could face a tough decision should the Hornets lodge a sizeable offer.
Buckley has primarily been employed as a wide midfielder this season but has in the past operated as a striker.
Meanwhile, Rochdale have extended the loan of Manchester United goalkeeper Tom Heaton until January 31 - meaning he can face Port Vale on Tuesday night.
The 23-year-old has made 11 appearances for the League Two leaders so far this season and had been due to return to Old Trafford on Monday.
However, the extension means that he is able to face Vale on Tuesday.
