Hereford United are set to bolster their bolster their squad with the loan additions of West Brom youngsters Paul Downing and Lateef Elford-Alliyu.

Skysports.com understands the pair will join on initial one-month deals, although there is every chance they could remain at Edgar Street for the rest of the season with 28-day recall clauses.

Baggies' reserve team captain Downing is yet to make a first-team appearance under Roberto Di Matteo, but the defender did make the bench for their Premier League game at Blackburn Rovers in May.

Striker Elford-Alliyu, like Downing, is yet to break into the Baggies' first team, although he did feature twice for England in the European Under 17 Championship in Germany last year.

The Bulls are just seven points above second from bottom Grimsby Town so manager John Trewick will be delighted at the prospect of adding to his squad ahead of Saturday's game at Port Vale.

The relegation-threatened side have gone five league games without success since winning 3-1 at Northampton Town at the start of December.
