Southampton have signed striker Lee Barnard from Southend for an undisclosed fee.
The 25-year-old, who has signed a two-and-a-half year deal at St Mary's, is available for this weekend's FA Cup fourth round clash against Ipswich.
The former Tottenham man scored 20 goals during his first season with Southend last year and has already found the net 17 times in the current campaign.
Leeds were also linked with a move for Barnard, but Southampton have managed to lure the player to the South Coast.
As a result of Barnard's arrival, Saints youngster Matthew Paterson has left the club to sign a permanent deal with the Shrimpers.
