Newcastle boss Chris Hughton is still hopeful of securing a deal for Nottingham Forest's James Perch.
The Championship leaders lodged an initial approach for the versatile 24-year-old earlier this week, as they look to boost their promotion bid with fresh faces.
However, their offer was swiftly knocked back by Forest, with Reds boss Billy Davies branding the bid as 'derisory'.
Davies is reluctant to let Perch leave the City Ground, as he remains an integral part of his first-team plans, and will do all he can to fend off any advances.
Hughton, though, has refused to give up on the combative midfielder and hopes an agreement can still be reached.
"The situation with that is the club have made an official offer for him," the Magpies manager told Sky Sports News.
"It was done through the correct channels and we will see what happens."
