Alan Smith is hopeful Newcastle will continue to boost their squad in the January transfer window.
The Magpies look set to complete the signing of Danny Simpson this week after a successful loan spell on Tyneside but both Marlon Harewood and Zurab Khizanishvili have left the North East after their respective loan deals expired at the beginning of the month.
Chris Hughton's side have 10 games between now and the end of February and Smith feels it is vital to strengthen if they are to maintain a promotion push.
The midfielder said: "As it stands, we have lost three players who we have had on loan and it would be nice if we could get them all back.
"In February we have a lot of games in a short period of time but the lads will keep battling on.
"We are a tight squad because we haven't got many players. We will welcome anyone Chris gets in with open arms, and hopefully he can add to the quality of the squad."
