Skysports.com understands Southampton are closing in on the signing of Coventry defender Elliott Ward.
Sky Blues boss Chris Coleman revealed last week Southampton had made an enquiry for Ward as they look to bolster their squad during this month's transfer window.
Ward is well down the pecking order at Coventry and with the player's contract due to expire in the summer, Coventry are ready to let him move on.
Saints boss Alan Pardew is a big admirer of Ward having worked with him during his time in charge of West Ham and he is keen to bring the 24-year-old to St Mary's.
Southampton are ready to offer Ward an 18-month deal to make the move to League One, as they look to add his signing to the signature of Jose Fonte.
