Coventry boss Chris Coleman has revealed Southampton have enquired about the availability of defender Elliot Ward.
The Sky Blues centre-half has made just four starts in the Championship this term and has worked with Saints boss Alan Pardew during their time at West Ham.
With Neal Trotman being recalled from his loan spell from Preston, Pardew is light at the back and is eyeing up a speedy replacement to aid their promotion push from League One.
Ward could fit the bill and while Coleman admits talks have begun, a concrete offer has yet to be made.
"There have been a couple of tentative calls and I have had a chat with Elliott," Coleman told Southampton Echo. "Nothing's come of it yet, but he wants to play football.
"Southampton are doing alright and Alan Pardew knows him from his West Ham days, so there's something there, but we haven't got very far down the line with it yet."
