Sir Alex Ferguson expects Mame Biram Diouf to play a part for Manchester United this season after being impressed by the striker in training.

Diouf was signed by United from Molde last summer, but was allowed to finish the domestic season in Norway before moving to Old Trafford.

The Senegalese has now secured a work permit and international clearance, and is close to being handed his debut for the Premier League champions.

Ferguson recently admitted that the 22-year-old could feature in the Carling Cup semi-final against Manchester City, with the first leg having been delayed until 19th January due to the cold snap.

Adapted well

The United boss has been pleased by Diouf's early impact in training and expects the forward to play a role for the club in the coming weeks.

"He has adapted very well to our training regime and has looked very impressive," Ferguson told Inside United.

"He is quick, very good in the air and a good striker of the ball.

"Overall, he is a really good centre-forward and he will play a part this season."

Diouf has been handed the No.32 shirt previously worn by Carlos Tevez and will boost United's attacking options for the second half of the season.
