Mido could be set for a move back to England this month, skysports.com understands.
The 26-year-old is currently back in his homeland with El Zamalek, on a season-long loan from Middlesbrough.
He was included in Egypt's preliminary squad for the African Cup of Nations, but he was axed from the final party ahead of the tournament in Angola.
Mido has struggled for form back in Egypt, scoring just one league goal, and a move back to England is thought to appeal.
It is understood a couple of Premier League clubs are keen on taking him on loan for the rest of the season.
Middlesbrough are willing to let him come back, but want another loan as a switch back to the Riverside does not appear to be on the agenda.
