Bayern confirm loan move

Bayern Munich have announced that Luca Toni will join Roma on loan for the second half of the season. The Italian striker has found himself surplus to requirements at the Allianz Arena after falling out with new manager Louis van Gaal. He asked the German giants for a January move and they have now granted his wish to link up with Roma. Toni underwent a medical earlier this week and the deal has now been confirmed by Bayern. The 32-year-old is hoping the switch will ensure he has the opportunity to be selected in Marcello Lippi's World Cup squad. "In a discussion Luca Toni asked the board of Bayern Munich to loan him out to Roma until the end of the season for personal reasons," read a statement on the club's official website. "He wants, through regular games in Serie A, to still realise his main goal of taking part in the 2010 World Cup with the Italian national team. "The Bayern Munich board thanked Luca Toni ... and wished him all the best at Roma, lots of success and above all a place in the World Cup."
