Hibernian boss John Hughes has dismissed reports linking him with a move for Sunderland defender Russell Anderson.
Some reports have claimed Hibs were closing in on a deal for the Scotland international.
Anderson is well down the pecking order at Sunderland and he is expected to move on in the near future.
Hughes admits he is hoping to add to his squad in the January transfer window but has ruled out any swoop for Anderson.
"I would like to think there will be something happening in the window but it certainly won't be Russell Anderson," Hughes told the Edinburgh Evening News. "There are specific targets but it is more about what positions we need.
"I want a squad where there's competition for places, two for each position.
"I'm looking to bring good characters to Hibs but the most important thing is that they want to come to this club.
"I have always said: 'There's only one Hibs but millions of players'."
