Pilgrims want Arnason stay

Mariner pleased with Icelandic centre-half

Arnason: Has impressed

Plymouth boss Paul Mariner has confirmed he ready to extend the contract of Kari Arnason beyond this season.

The Icelander has impressed at Home Park since being brought to the club in the summer by then Pilgrims chief Paul Sturrock on a one-year deal.

Mariner has quickly recognised Arnason's value to the side having been impressed with his versatility to play in both defence and midfield.

"We're attending to it (a new contract) now," Mariner told the club's official website.

"Since Paul (Sturrock) put him back to playing central defence we have worked with him on the coaching side.

"He has responded and he really likes the position. He can still obviously play in midfield but he has done a fantastic job back there."
