Hull City boss Phil Brown has confirmed that Nick Barmby suffered a calf strain in the clash with Arsenal.
The 35-year-old appeared to struggle in the build up to the interval on his first start since October for the Tigers.
Complaining that his calf felt tight, he was quickly replaced by Seyi Olofinjana as Hull went on to lose the game 3-0.
Brown says he had no choice but to make the change for fear of risking a further injury.
He told the club's official website: "Nick's calf tightened up a bit at half-time, so we had to make a change.
"That change may have been a different kind of change had the score still been 0-0.
"But these are the decisions you have to make and Nick had to come off."
