Aston Villa defender Curtis Davies is back in training ahead of schedule and itching for a first-team return.
The commanding centre-half underwent surgery on his shoulder injury in September and was expected to be out of action until the New Year.
However, he was been welcomed back into the fold last week and has shown no signs of the previous problem.
The former West Brom man is now hoping to be drafted back into Villa's starting XI by boss Martin O'Neill at some point over the Christmas period.
"I've really surprised myself coming back so soon," said Davies.
"I was told I'd be out for four months but I'm back after three.
"I've now trained three days this week without any problem and I feel fine.
"I feel I am ready to make a comeback but, obviously, I need to get some match action to really test myself."
