Ipswich midfielder Jaime Peters has signed a new contract to keep him at Portman Road until 2013.

Peters' previous deal was due to expire at the end of the season and the club have moved to tie him down to a new long-term contract.

The 22-year-old came to Portman Road in 2005 and the Canada international is delighted to have extended his stay.

"It's a nice Christmas present and I'm obviously very pleased to be given the chance to stay," Peters told the club's official website.

"I've had my ups and downs here but Ipswich is a great club and I'm pleased with the way things have gone for me this season in terms of being involved with the first team.

"I think I have progressed as a player this season and I'm enjoying playing under the manager."
