Burnley defender Clarke Carlisle has urged boss Owen Coyle to spend in the January transfer window.
The Clarets recently announced a loss of £11.7million after breaking the bank to achieve promotion from the Championship last season.
However, the lucrative nature of the Premier League has allowed the club to balance the books and reports suggest Coyle will be allowed to spend in the new year.
Despite an impressive start to life in the top flight, which has seen five wins in 13 games, centre-half Carlisle thinks the club cannot afford to rest on their laurels.
"Should we bring players in? Absolutely," Carlisle told The Mirror.
"We have had a brilliant start to the season and in many ways exceeded expectations but we can't stand still.
"I think the manager is looking at a few possible acquisitions. New players would enhance the competition."
