Everton ace John Heitinga has absolved Nemanja Vidic of any blame after he suffered an eye injury in a challenge with the Manchester United defender.
Heitinga, who played in midfield in Everton's 3-0 defeat to United, needed four stitches in an eye wound after being caught by a stray elbow from Vidic in an aerial challenge.
Vidic escaped any punishment by referee Steve Bennett and Heitinga has backed the United defender, saying the challenge was not intentional
"I have four stitches and it was an elbow," Heitinga told The Sun. "But we were in the air and I don't think it was deliberate.
"Vidic said sorry afterwards. It's football, it can happen."
