Sky Blues defender holding out for January move

Coventry City defender Elliott Ward has rejected the chance to join ambitious League Two side Notts County on loan. Ward has made just seven appearances for the Sky Blues this season and revealed back in September that he is expecting to leave the Ricoh Arena. His first-team chances have been further hindered by the signing of Richard Wood from Sheffield Wednesday, but he has shunned a short-term move to Meadow Lane. Reports suggest the 24-year-old is holding out for a permanent transfer and Sky Blues boss Chris Coleman expects the centre-half to leave the club in the New Year. "Elliott has turned down the chance to move, albeit on loan, but something might happen in January," Coleman told the Coventry Evening Telegraph. "I have discussed the situation with Elliott and he is down the pecking order so something may happen." In addition to Notts County, Championship duo Preston North End and Sheffield United, along with Southampton, are also rumoured to be interested in Ward.
