Fabrice Pancrate will have the chance to impress Newcastle's coaches when he plays for the reserves against Hartlepool on Tuesday.
The French forward has been on trial for the past week and will partner Peter Lovenkrands in attack at St James' Park.
The 29-year-old is well travelled, having been on trial with Portsmouth in pre-season and most recently with Sheffield United.
Burnley were also thought to be interested as were French trio Sochaux, Nantes and Strasbourg in the summer.
Pancrate is available on a free transfer after being released by PSG at the end of last season.
As well as playing in Ligue 1, Pancrate has also graced Spain's top flight while on loan with Real Betis nearly three years ago.
