Rotherham United boss Ronnie Moore is hoping to complete the signing of former Crewe Alexandra and Yeovil Town midfielder Gary Roberts.
The 22-year-old has been training with the Millers for the past fortnight after being a free agent since leaving Yeovil in September.
Roberts also trained with Brighton & Hove Albion recently, but is now set to earn a contract with League Two promotion hopefuls Rotherham.
He is understood to have been offered a deal until the end of the season, with the option of a further year.
Moore confirmed he has discussed terms with Roberts and expects the player to sign before the weekend's game against Torquay United.
The Millers manager told The Star: "We have spoken to Gary and we are hoping that he will put pen to paper early this week."
