Notts County are hoping to turn Brendan Moloney's loan deal from Nottingham Forest into a permanent move.
Moloney has been on loan at County since the start of the season, with his stint due to expire in January.
The full-back has impressed at Meadow Lane and the ambitious League Two outfit are keen to keep Moloney.
Magpies executive chairman Peter Trembling confirmed they are in talks with Forest over a permanent deal, but are struggling to agree a fee with their local rivals.
"We've had problems since we arrived as the price has gone up for every single player we enquire about," said Trembling.
"We are trying to sign Brendan Moloney but Forest want the best possible price for him."
