Tottenham striker Peter Crouch has compared current manager Harry Redknapp to former boss Rafa Benitez.

The 28-year-old, who has played under Redknapp at Southampton, Portsmouth and Spurs, is preparing to stake his claim for England as the Three Lions take on Brazil in a friendly match on Saturday.

Crouch spent three years at Liverpool under Benitez, and says the Reds tactician is from a different managerial school to Redknapp, although he did compare the former to England boss Fabio Capello.

"Harry wears his heart on his sleeve and will tell you if you're playing badly," he said.

"Benitez isn't like that and might not rip into you as much, or pat you on the back.

"Benitez is the type of manager, similar to the England manager perhaps. You do have to work hard to get a 'well done'.

"That's the way Rafa plays it, and he's done exceptionally well. I'd rather have Harry's approach. It's easier to deal with someone like Harry because he's so open.

"I can go and talk to him and he can explain to him why I'm left out and if I'm playing well. Rafa keeps his cards to his chest.

"I found it difficult to score in the first part of my time there (at Liverpool) and the fans were fantastic to me.

"I went on to score a good amount of goals and had the best years of my career. I'd love to see them win the league."

Crouch was given a telling off by Redknapp last month after being pictured in a nightclub after Tottenham's win over Portsmouth, although he admitted Capello has not spoken to him about the incident.

"It won't happen again," he added. "He (Capello) has not said anything to me. Harry said, 'you're an idiot, move on'. Quite straight forward."

The tall striker will be looking to sure-up his spot on the plane to South Africa next year when England take on Brazil in Qatar, in the absence of Carlton Cole and Emile Heskey.

With places in Capello's squad still all to play for, Crouch realises he has to perform consistently as he looks to build on his excellent scoring record at international level.

"If you can score and win against Brazil the manager will believe you can do it in a big tournament," he said.

"Brazil are one of the top five teams in the world so to put in a good performance will be fantastic for your aspirations of making the side for the World Cup."
