Roma coach Claudio Ranieri has criticised Inter Milan midfielder Patrick Vieira after Daniele De Rossi suffered a fractured cheekbone during Sunday's 1-1 draw in Serie A.
De Rossi was caught by the elbow of the former Arsenal star and looks certain to miss Italy's friendly against Holland on Saturday.
Roma's point left them 13th in Serie A but De Rossi's injury ruined the afternoon for Ranieri, who was fuming that Vieira escaped without a booking for the challenge and that Inter only picked up three yellow cards from referee Gianluca Rocchi.
"De Rossi will have to undergo an operation," said Ranieri. "Vieira always jumps with his elbows open and for that reason in England he was always sent off.
"Inter made too many systematic fouls and if the referee allows them to get away with it, then they continue to make them.
"They made double the fouls we made and got just one more yellow card than we did."
