Peterborough are poised to sign Histon midfielder Josh Simpson after he impressed on trial, skysports.com understands.
Simpson has been on trial at London Road this week along with Histon team-mate Danny Wright.
Highly-rated midfielder Simpson is understood to have the caught the eye of the Peterborough coaching staff during his time at the club.
Simpson scored in Tuesday's reserve win over Luton and Posh boss Darren Ferguson is ready to offer him a contract at the Championship club.
Meanwhile, Grimsby's Ryan Bennett is hoping to make his loan move to Peterborough permanent in January.
The 19-year-old defender, who joined the Posh on loan a fortnight ago, made his Peterborough debut from the bench last weekend.
And he is keen to stay at London Road into the new year.
"It is obviously a big step up the leagues, but a challenge I am relishing. I will do whatever is required to improve," Bennett told the Grimsby Telegraph.
"Obviously everyone wants to play as high as they can and this was the next step for me.
"Hopefully we'll get something sorted and I'll sign for the long term."
