Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor could return to the Manchester City line-up for the Premier League match against Burnley on Saturday.
The duo missed Sunday's stalemate at Birmingham, Mark Hughes' side's fourth league draw in succession, due to injury.
Hughes is therefore keen to welcome two of his big-money summer signings back to his ranks and is optimistic they could feature at Eastlands at the weekend.
"Adebayor and Toure haven't trained a great deal in the last two or three weeks, so they need a good week of training - and I hope they will be an option next weekend," said the City boss.
Meanwhile, City have been dealt a blow by confirmation that promising midfielder David Ball is out for six weeks with a broken metatarsal.
Ball was on the bench for September's derby at Manchester United, but his setback means he will miss the trip to Abu Dhabi next week to face the United Arab Emirates.
