Parma's on-loan striker Valeri Bojinov has revealed he wants to stay in Italy rather than return to Manchester City.

Bojinov is on a season-long loan at Parma after injury restricted the Bulgaria international to just 12 appearances in his previous two years at City.

He has impressed back in Serie A and the 23-year-old admits that his priority is to secure a more long-term deal with Parma.

"The club know that I want to stay," Bojinov told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I still have a year on my contract with City, a club who waited for me to recover from injury.

"But I needed a place which could allow me the possibility to do my job again. I wanted to come back to Italy."

Bojinov joined City from Fiorentina, but concedes he always knew he would return to Italy having also played for Lecce and Juventus.

He added: "Even when I left for England I knew that I would want to come back here.

"Italy has given me so much. My home is here, I studied here and I have so many friends over here. England is different."
