McGhee keen to retain dead-ball specialist

Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee has confirmed Charlie Mulgrew has been offered a new long-term deal. The 23-year-old defender, who joined from Wolves in the summer of 2008, is out of contract at the end of the season. However, McGhee is keen to retain the dead-ball specialist and has confirmed he has been offered fresh terms at Pittodrie. "We have made a formal contract offer to Charlie Mulgrew and hopefully he will accept it," he told the Evening Express. Should Mulgrew fail to agree new terms at Aberdeen he would be free to negotiate with interested parties from January.
