Lee Sawyer will play no part in Southend's meeting with Carlisle on Saturday following a breach of club discipline.
The midfielder, who is on loan at Roots Hall from Chelsea, was sent home from training on Thursday after angering club staff.
The 20-year-old has made nine appearances for the Shrimpers this season, but he will not be making the long journey to Brunton Park this weekend.
"Lee Sawyer has not travelled with the Southend United squad today ahead of tomorrow's match with Carlisle United," read a statement released on the club's official website.
"Lee was sent home from training on Thursday for another breach of club discipline.
"His failure to attend Thursday's pre-match team meeting at the training ground, where the team were to prepare for the weekend's opposition, has angered both his team-mates and the managerial staff."
