Rangers have been dealt a severe blow with news that Pedro Mendes has been ruled out for up to two months with a knee injury.
The influential midfielder picked up the problem during the Gers' embarrassing 4-1 home defeat to minnows Unirea Urziceni on Tuesday.
The Portuguese ace had given the Scottish champions the lead after just two minutes but things quickly turned sour as Mendes was forced off at half-time with the score at 1-1.
The former Tottenham and Portsmouth man was sent for scans on Wednesday and the results revealed that the player faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Rangers manager Walter Smith is hopeful that Mendes can return within six weeks as he looks to lift his side for the SPL clash with Hibernian on Saturday.
Smith is also without Madjid Bougherra for at least two weeks after the defender injured his knee in training on Monday.
