Chris Maguire has denied stating he would quit Aberdeen in January if he failed to break into Mark McGhee's team.

The 20-year-old striker has made just two SPL starts this season, leading some to believe he was mulling over his future at Pittodrie.

Maguire insists he has a good relationship with McGhee and that his quotes stating he wanted to start more were taken out of context.

No problems

"I've never said I wanted to leave the club in January - and I made it clear I don't have any problems with the manager," he told Red Matchday magazine.

"All I've said is that I want to start every game, which is all that any player wants. If I didn't feel like that, then the manager would think there was something wrong with me.

"I know it's up to me to put myself in his plans, and that's what I'm looking to do over the next few weeks. It's as simple as that."
