North Queensland Fury have dismissed reports that Tranmere Rovers have made an approach for veteran striker Robbie Fowler.
Former Liverpool striker Fowler has been linked with a move to Prenton Park following the dismissal of John Barnes as manager last week.
Reports have claimed that the League One strugglers want to install the 34-year-old as player/manager following Barnes' disappointing spell in charge.
However, A-League side Fury have issued a statement to deny the speculation that Fowler could be close to securing a return to England.
"North Queensland Fury FC is aware of a report on UK-based website People.co.uk that suggests marquee player Robbie Fowler could make the move back to Britain to play for League One club Tranmere Rovers," read the club's statement.
"Rovers have not approached the Fury in relation to Robbie Fowler."
Fowler has a two-year contract with the Fury and earlier this year vowed to honour that deal after being linked with Tranmere in July.
"I've got a two-year contract with North Queensland Fury FC and I'm a man of my word - I'll play it out," Fowler said at the time.
"I wouldn't want anyone to do that sort of thing (renege on a contract) to me and I certainly wouldn't do it to anyone."
