Maicon's agent, Antonio Caliendo, has refused to comment on speculation linking his client with a move to Manchester United.
The Inter Milan defender is said to have interested the Premier League champions for some time but new reports on Tuesday have seen neighbours Manchester City linked with the right-back.
The 28-year-old has expressed a desire to leave the San Siro for some time now with a move to Real Madrid mooted in the summer.
However Caliendo has admitted in the past that Inter have the power to decide Maicon's future.
"Maicon is a big player, the best in the world in his role," agent Antonio Caliendo told Sky Italia.
"Should there be offers and president (Massimo) Moratti will want to evaluate them, we are ready to sit around a table and discuss.
"Balances, at our times, are important.
"Manchester United on Maicon? No comment."
One defender who is intent on staying at Inter is the highly rated 18-year-old Davide Santon who also has his sights set on the World Cup next summer.
"I hope to participate in the World Cup 2010," he said.
"I really like, and I hope that I can play with Inter. I do not want to leave. The club feels good. But I know that much depends on me."
