Gianluigi Buffon admits that his knee is 'destroyed' but he is determined to put off surgery until after Juventus play Inter at the start of December.

The goalkeeper played the full 90 minutes for Italy against Republic of Ireland on Saturday as the Azzurri secured the point they needed to qualify for the World Cup finals next summer.

The 31-year-old has been training on his own during the past couple of weeks following an intense course of physiotherapy.

The World Cup winner is hoping that the physiotherapy pays off but if not it is thought he will go under the knife in a bid to finally cure the ongoing problem.

"My knee is destroyed," he said.

"I need an operation. I hope to get to the game against Inter."
