Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is hopeful that Javier Mascherano will be fit to face Chelsea on Sunday.

The Reds travel to Stamford Bridge for Sunday's title clash, which you can see live on Sky Sports 1 & HD1.

And Benitez is keen to have the midfielder available for selection after the combative Argentina international missed the midweek UEFA Champions League defeat to Fiorentina.

"Javier trained today so hopefully he will be fit for Sunday," said Benitez.

"For us he is a key player. He is a very good worker in the middle and he can keep the balance of the team."

Benitez also admitted that defender Dan Agger had returned to contention after a reserve team outing following his recent back problem.

"I watched the DVD of the reserve game and he did well," said the Anfield boss.

"Maybe he will have a chance for Sunday, we will see.

"He is a player who can defend really well but he also has quality in possession. It will be good to have him back."
