Burnley have suffered another injury blow, with young striker Jay Rodriguez set to be sidelined for three months with a fractured ankle.
The 20-year-old was injured in the reserves game against Hull City on Wednesday night when he landed awkwardly from an aerial challenge.
And the extent of the injury was made clear on Thursday after Rodriguez underwent a scan on his ankle.
"We are devastated for the lad and our primary concern is for him," said manager Owen Coyle.
"He's obviously an integral part of our first-team squad and it's another blow to lose him for three months on the back of the other injuries we have had.
"However, I know Jay will get the best possible care under our team of physios and we look forward to him coming back as soon as possible to play a part in the remainder of our season."
Rodriguez is the third Clarets player in a fortnight to be ruled out for three months, with fellow striker Martin Paterson and midfielder Chris McCann both sidelined until Christmas with knee injuries.
