Benfica eyeing new Luisao deal

Portuguese giants set to offer defender new deal

Luisao: Set to be offered new deal

Benfica are preparing to offer a new deal to Brazilian international defender Luisao.

The central defender interested a number of clubs in the summer, including Everton, Fiorentina and Fenerbahce.

But the Portuguese giants want to tie the player into a new contract, with his agent Giuliano Bertolucci set to attend talks at the weekend.

A possible stumbling block is that the club would like his new deal to run until June 2013 at least, while the player, who has been at Benfica for six years, only wants to extend his current deal by one season.

Bertolucci said: "As always, we are willing to negotiate. Luisao is content at Benfica but any deal must reflect his performances on the field."

Everton reportedly made a €12million bid (£10.79million) for Luisao in the summer, but Benfica were quick to snub the offer, informing the Toffees that they will only do business at €20million (£17.98million).
