Sampdoria's impressive progress this season has taken a blow with the news that Franco Semioli has sustained a knock.
The midfielder picked up a shoulder injury during Sunday's 4-1 victory over Siena.
He was forced off at half-time during that contest, a game which sent Samp to the top of Serie A.
Semioli was taken to hospital almost immediately after being removed from the field in order to undergo scans.
The results of those tests were revealed on Sunday evening, with the 29-year-old shown to have suffered a fracture.
Sampdoria expect the Italy international to require a month of complete rest before he is able to resume full training.
The news comes as a bitter blow to the men from Genoa as they have taken maximum points from their opening four games of the 2009/10 campaign.
