Holland coach Bert van Marwijk has backed Rafael van der Vaart's decision to remain at Real Madrid.
Van der Vaart shunned numerous offers to quit the Spanish club and has vowed to fight for a starting berth in Spain.
Van Marwijk admits he has taken a risk, but he is more than hopeful he will be rewarded for his determination to win a first-team place.
"It's a decision which has a risk attached to it," he said.
"But he has told me he thinks he will get some playing time. For me, it's a good choice.
"He also has some issues in his private life which came into it."
Van der Vaart is set to feature against Scotland on Wednesday, in their final qualifier, as Wesley Sneijder is struggling with injury.
Sneijder, who took the opposite stance to van der Vaart as he accepted a move to Inter Milan from Real last month, has an ankle problem.
