Scotland have brought Aberdeen goalkeeper Jamie Langfield into their squad to face Macedonia and Holland.

Aberdeen goalkeeper included for key qualifiers

Scotland have brought Aberdeen goalkeeper Jamie Langfield into their squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Macedonia and Holland. Rangers goalkeeper Neil Alexander has been ruled out of Saturday's penultimate Group Nine clash with Macedonia after taking a slight knock in training but he remains part of the squad. Alexander, 31, and Langfield, 29, are unlikely to play a part in either Saturday's game or Wednesday's clash with Holland. Sunderland's Craig Gordon is George Burley's undisputed No.1, while David Marshall deputised for the Sunderland keeper in last month's 4-0 defeat in Norway. Alexander will be reassessed on Sunday to determine whether he remains with the squad for the Holland match. Burley's only hope of reaching the World Cup finals in South Africa next summer rests on finishing as one of the eight best-placed runners up. Scotland are currently third in the group, trailing Macedonia having lost away in Skopje in their opening match of the campaign, while the Dutch are already assured of top spot. Uncapped Dons man Langfield had lost his place in Burley's squad following the return from injury of Craig Gordon. The Scottish Football Association said Langfield had been drafted in to "provide more goalkeeping cover" for the must-win matches at Hampden Park.
