Scunthorpe United have denied claims they rejected a bid from Queens Park Rangers for star striker Gary Hooper.
The 21-year-old joined The Iron last summer from Southend United and finished as one of the top-scorers in League One.
A number of clubs have shown an interest, and it was claimed that QPR had seen a £1million offer turned down.
But chairman Steve Wharton insists that there was only ever a brief enquiry from Rangers after the two clubs played last weekend.
"After we played QPR on Saturday, they told us Hooper was a player that they had admired and asked me if he would be for sale," said the United chairman.
"I told them the answer was 'no'.
"If that constitutes a bid for him, then I suppose yes they have made one. But I have had no further conversation with anyone from QPR since then."
