The Belgian FA (KNVB) have banned Standard Liege star Axel Witsel for just short of three months.
Witsel broke the leg of Anderlecht defender Marcin Wasilewski in a challenge at the weekend and he is set for lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The KNVB have now acted to ban Witsel until November 23, which means he will now miss ten league games and one cup match.
Witsel himself insists he did not mean to do such damage to Wasilewski.
"I accept the possible sanctions. But anyone who knows me, knows I haven't done this with intention," said Witsel.
"I want to give my sympathies to Wasilewski and his family and hope I can make my apologies personally quickly."
Meanwhile, Standard have confirmed the signing of former Spurs defender Ricardo Rocha.
