Depleted Crewe have boosted their midfield options with the emergency loan signing of Simon Walton from Plymouth.
Alex have been hit with a host of injury problems, with James Bailey, Luke Murphy and Ashley Westwood all sidelined for Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth.
But the club has been allowed to bring in former Leeds man Walton on a season-long loan and he will be available for Tuesday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash with Stockport.
Walton started out at Leeds and made 38 appearances for the club before making a £500,000 move to Charlton in 2006.
The 21-year-old was loaned out to Ipswich and Cardiff, though, and joined QPR for £200,000 in 2007.
That move also failed to work out for Walton and he went on loan to Hull before joining Plymouth last summer, making 14 appearances for Argyle last season.
