Middlesbrough striker Afonso Alves is said to be closing in on a move to Qatari side Al-Sadd.
Alves cost Boro £12million from Heerenveen in January 2008 but he has failed to make a significant impact since the switch.
The Brazilian has been linked with a move away from the Teesside outfit since their relegation from the Premier League last season.
Al-Sadd are thought to be the favourites to land Alves' signature before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.
Southgate has been unable to call on Alves so far this campaign as he has been recovering from foot surgery.
Alves has scored just 13 goals in 49 appearances for Boro since his big-money switch to the Riverside.
Boro boss Gareth Southgate, whose side are third in the Championship, recently saw Robert Huth and Tuncay Sanli depart the club for Stoke City.
