McIlroy hopeful of landing veteran striker

Morecambe are in talks with Accrington about the signing of striker Paul Mullin. The Shrimps have been on the look-out for a striker for the entire summer and have now targeted Mullin, but although talks have been ongoing for a while, a deal has yet to be agreed. Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy is a big admirer of Mullin and is hoping to tie up a deal for the 35-year-old. "We have made enquiries about Paul Mullin and had a few talks," McIlroy told the club's official website. "He is a player I like because he has great experience, holds the ball up well and can score goals as well. "I would like to have him here but we will just have to see if we can agree anything before the transfer deadline at the end of the week." The 35-year-old is closing in on 100 goals for Stanley, having made over 250 appearances.
