Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has rubbished rumours regarding a number of players.
Sir Alex Ferguson is understood to be an admirer of Luka Modric and reports had suggested the Manchester United manager was considering a move for the Croatian playmaker.
There was speculation that a deal could see Michael Carrick return to White Hart Lane in exchange for Modric but Redknapp insists there is no truth in the story.
"Luka Modric is a fantastic player, so is Michael Carrick," Redknapp said on Sky Sports News.
"I want to keep Luka here and I am sure Alex wants to keep Michael at Man Utd, so that's a load of rubbish.
"He (Ferguson) likes him (Modric) but I like Ronaldo. I couldn't get him. It's never going to happen. Alex has never made an approach for him."
Redknapp also reiterated that he would not be trying to sign goalkeeper David James after working with him at Portsmouth.
"There is nothing in that one," he stressed. "That is just another rumour."
Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole is another player to have worked with Redknapp in the past and, like James, has been linked with a switch to Spurs this summer.
However, Redknapp does not believe there is any chance of the England international making the move across London
He said: "Joe Cole is a fantastic player but he is at Chelsea and he is going to stay at Chelsea. There is nothing in that whatsoever.
"Any team would like Joe but he is not a player I have even made a phone call about because I don't think it would be possible to get him. He belongs to Chelsea."
