Skysports.com understands Dagenham & Redbridge have rejected a bid from Gillingham for star striker Paul Benson.
Gillingham have been chasing the free-scoring forward all summer and have already had one bid rejected by Dagenham last month.
Benson has started the season in fine style for Dagenham, including a four-goal haul against Shrewsbury in midweek.
Gills boss Mark Stimson is a big admirer of Benson and is keen to bring the striker to Priestfield before the close of transfer window.
Gillingham are believed to have tabled a £140,000 bid for Benson, but Dagenham have rejected the offer as they look to keep hold of the 29-year-old.
